Watch Enya’s appearance on Sukkiri in better quality. The clip includes a short interview in which Enya talks about her favourite Tokyo park and her kimono collection (no, I’m not making this up).

Oh, it must be so difficult for all concerned to conduct such a fast-paced interview in translation. ๐ฅ I even found it difficult to follow as a viewer. ๐ฉ But, once again, I love and admire the respect shown by the Japanese Presenters to Enya. ๐

It is actually surprising how the show spared this much time but yes, it’s a pity they ran out of time at the end.
Since there was nothing new from Enya about the album, here are a few things I gathered from the clip that may be of interest: The park in the photo is Hibiya park near the Imperial Palace. Enya says she wears a kimono to relax, which is quite hard for Japanese people to understand as kimonos are pretty uncomfortable, so the hosts are guessing it is a yukata (a cotton, simplified kimono) but she says she has many variations.
Btw one of the commentators who asked a question about The Humming is an American professor specializing in Japanese literature. His Japanese is so good he could pass as a native speaker.

@Brian Clifford Sorry I haven’t replied to your comment elsewhere… life has been quite hectic at the moment. I hope you got your copy by now, it took me a week after the release to obtain mine but that long wait made the album extra precious!

@ Ciara. Hi Ciara. Lovely to hear from you as always and read your interesting insights into Japan. Sorry to hear Life is a bit hectic for you at the moment. Not great for taking some “enya time”. Hey! You got ‘Dark Sky Island’. Congrats!! Guess what? See my post on the ‘Dark Sky Island Out Now’ thread here in Enya sk. ๐

@Ciara Thank you for your insight, I didn’t even notice that one of the presenters wasn’t Japanese. I was impressed by how fluently the interpreter translated, it must have been difficult with such a fast-paced conversation and music playing in the background.

@Brian Clifford I read your post and I am so happy for you! Congratulations! I totally understand it when you said you need some space in your mind to fully appreciate Enya’s music. Well, the holiday season is just around the corner! Looking forward to your review of the album:)
@Lucia I’m a native Japanese speaker so I happen to know this show and the people. Yes, the interpreter did a brilliant job. What matters in simultaneous interpretation is not so much the accuracy as what you choose to translate (and conversely what not to), and Enya talks a lot so the translator did her best!

BBC Radio 4 ‘Front Row’ presented by Kirsty Lang 19th. November 2015
For anyone who may not have heard this interview, here is a link to the BBC Radio Arts, Culture & Media programme I just discovered in the last few moments.
Kirsty Lang conducts a one-to-one interview with Enya on the day before the release of ‘Dark Sky Island’. Over nearly 9 minutes, Kirsty presents an excellent retrospective of Enya’s musical career touching on the work of herself, Nicky & Roma leading to the occasion of the new album. As well as exploring Enya’s personal upbringing and culture, the interview addresses very relevant questions from a handful of albums from ‘The Celts’ to ‘Dark Sky Island’ including the topics of Loxian and the other languages Enya has sung in, and the question of a Live Tour to support ‘Dark Sky Island’?
Thanks to Umi Yorokobino for uploading this interview to You Tube among many other Enya interviews on Radio and Television.
