Always so consistent with her chart positioning, mostly top 10’s.
It’s crazy that she can achieve that as obscure as she is to popular music what with her large break in between recordings, the nature of the music itself and who she actually is!

@Franky I agree completely with you! After basically vanishing off the face of the Earth for the past 7 years, and with such last-minute promotion only this September and such fleeting appearances here and there, it’s a miracle she can actually achieve these positions with DSI. The only low point is that Warner might consider sales to be good enough and they would not request Enya to tour :( I’m still hoping she will do it! I’d hate for her to do yet another disappearing act after this. But of course this time the break between albums would be much shorter considering she has already had a good rest :)

@firemark, spot on. I was thinking that about the whole touring thing. The money is in the albums I suppose.
Still, it’s good to know that presumably there will be an album in 3-4 years. Looking forward to see if she’ll get her Fifth Grammy in her category at the Grammy awards at the next ceremony (which is the next after the one coming up)

Way to go! Still shows she has great prominence in most of europe and the world really. I’m quite shocked when I go into a shop and see her album there in the charts. It’s mad to think amidst listeners of Adele, One Direction, Justin Bieber and dance music, that people listen to her.
Way to go! I can see this album selling at least 5,000,000 possibly more

i kept checking the position on amazon.de and was surprised to find out that the first week in the charts was actually better than those amazon sales, where she only kept hovering around 6 and has already now dropped to 19 (nr. 2 in limited edition though, still!)… unfortunately i suppose that chart positions in countries like germany and england and all the other will fall rather quickly.
i still believe that would they have chosen even in the shadows, combinded with a first class video, and more promotion, enya/nicky/roma could have made much more of an impact in charts around the world… a bit sad, seems like an opportunity missed out?

iTunes downloads were only 47,000 and the entire album is available for streaming across all major platforms.
I worked for Columbia Records for 16 years. Started in the mailroom and ended up a VP of Promotions. An artist of Enya’s stature would probably be expected to move 200-300,000 units in order for the coffers to break even (she probably doesn’t get an advance from Warner given her net worth and past album sales – especially if Nicky is to be believed about having no input from the label before release). Warner will likely recommend at least a North American tour or for her to do some sort of one-off global performance like Adele is doing with NBC (I realize she has announced a major European tour).
If Enya were to embark on a PROPER world tour (like Fleetwood Mac just wrapped) her total take-home could be between $75–100 million if she toured extensively. Therein, though, lies the issue. I’m not sure Enya could sell out in Des Moines, Chicago, Dallas, or Seattle. They will likely want her to do a “intrepid tour” – or “glossy tour” – of major markets like The Gardens in NYC and Staples in L.A.
In today’s age, these are, and I’m a big Enya fan, NOT strong numbers for her. They do nothing to impact or swell her total albums sold presentation. She will have to some sort of major album backend to recover if she wants the album to remain relevant to the general audience.
I forecast her album to fall out of the Top 20 this week, if it hasn’t already.

Then again think, how easily Enya could crush the numbers by touring glossy, that tiny human figure on a massive stage and those gigantic screens displaying a 30 camera fine-cut film.
The issue remains; “to gig or not to gig ?”. Is that 100M as appealing or not?
The answer may be quite a complex one.
But I’d love to be that tiny dot among the dude-ocean worshipping my dot goddess on that distant stage.

Remember that adwr was charting at no.2 US Billboard in 2001, almost a year after the album actual release. We can keep hoping and praying, i mean enya still have a chance. I dont want another tragedy (iykwim), but i think if one song on dsi (i wish ‘eits’) becoming a soundtrack of top movie (and also high class mv) that would be a good idea, since some of nowadays movie soundtrack are so successful (example: frozen, fifty shades, pitch perfect2)

Recent speculation among fans since the release of ‘Dark Star Island’ about the question of Enya touring has prompted a question in my mind.
Where is the Enya Shop gone that used to be on enya.com? The reason I have noticed its absence is I was reminded in the last week or so of the lovely Black & Red ‘Enya’ logo Baseball cap I purchased through the shop around 2008. I thought at the time it would be an appropriate piece of attire should I ever find myself going to an Enya Concert. Sadly, that has not yet happened. But, I still have my Baseball cap in careful storage. :)

I think the main reason Dark Sky Island is not as high as it could be is Adele’s 25 release this same time… but still it really doesn’t matter. Music matters and this album is one of the best pieces from Enya so don’t worry with numbers. Just enjoy every song and that we can live on one planet with such a GODDNESS. Namaste! <3

unfortunately, i tend to agree with pillars, charts positions will drop dramatically during the next weeks, already in germany it fell from 3 to 7, nice entry in switzerland at no 2 though… all other european charts more or less see a drop in sales figures already in it´s second week:-)… amarantine, ten years ago, stayed in the german top 5 for a few weeks, and so did and winter came, it climbed again after a popular tv show where enya performed my my time flies… no promotion, no chart success… and still i think it could have been done so much better, a release of even in the shadows together with a good video…

sorry, the :-) was supposed to be a :-( at the end of line 4, it is sad that enyas music is not being appreciated by a larger audience any more…
6 December 2015 at 2:39 PM
@elmar I am a bit sad when i read the fact that DSI is going down, but in other side I am really grateful her album can still reach the top ten in over 10 countries. Compared with other 90s musicians who released a new album this year, most of them are well-charted only in few countries. And also compared with a bit of nowadays musician who got really success in their first album, but then got underrated in their second. Enya’s music is long lasting,,
6 December 2015 at 10:58 PM
I think the first it is important, what we (we as the fans of her) thinking, not the whole world. It isn’t so important to see that the Album is on first place in some countries like Adele or so on.
I believe the most important thing is that we can feel the music of that what the trio want to say to us.
And I’m so greatful that Enya release a new album, and please don’t compare with another composer or singer; it isn’t so good.
Enya is Enya.
Thats good and she is so thankful to us and I believe that she dont want in the first place on the chart, she know that and she has a good reality thinking in my opinion.
So have a nice evening
And I hope you understand my expressions ^^
Sebastian :)

@Sebastian I do apologize with my previous word, it will make them down and offended. If there is an album not charting on the top doesn’t mean it is bad.
