Last Time by Moonlight

Quotes about the song
Enya: Other themes that we have are romantic themes. It’s like the couple who at Christmas are reminescing, very much in love and are thinking back about all the Christmases they had. The wonderful times, the hard times but they are still together. And then there’s the other romantic song where it didn’t work out. It’s a case of thinking about what was and what isn’t anymore. So there are various deep thoughts people have around that time of year.
Roma Ryan: ‘Last Time by Moonlight,’ it’s two people who would obviously be very close at one time and have parted. One of them is looking back on that special time, on that last time by moonlight. It’s a song of reminescence. And I think particularly around Christmas, as it’s a very reflective time, it’s one of the times when you do look back on people, on places and times that were particularly special to you.
Enya: Winter time is a time that I actually do think about my own life personally. I think a lot of people do this as well. So it’s a very reflective time. So it’s very much there within the album.

Lyrics
The winter sky above us
was shining
in moonlight,
And everywhere around us
the silence
of midnight.
And we had gathered snowflakes;
remember
the soft light
of starlight on snow.
Oooh, remember this,
for no-one knows
the way love goes.
Oooh, remember this,
for no-one knows
the way life goes.
We walked the road together
one last time
by moonlight,
as underneath the heavens
the slow chimes
at midnight,
but nothing is forever
not even
the starlight
at midnight
not even
the moonlight…
Oooh, remember this,
for no-one knows
the way love goes.
Oooh, remember this,
for no-one knows
the way life goes.
