Japanese interviews

The Japanese magazine AERA uploaded a short interview in which Enya talks about her song-writing process. There’re some cute moment (‘Oh my God!’) but the interviewer seems a bit lost in what Enya is saying.

This reminded me that in January I forgot to post a link to another Japanese article. Unfortunately, it’s available only in Japanese or kinda strange Google or BabelFish translation. The interview is worth reading but you need to have a bit of imagination.

I added seven photos from Wilkommen Bei Carmen Nebel performance. Those roses are very nice.

AERA English, February 2009. Interview by Makiko Saito

ENYA: I find that being successful doesn’t make it any easier to write a melody, you know, that you have written so many albums doesn’t make it easy to go in. So I have to forget the success and the listeners what they are expecting. I have to leave all that aspect of the music outside of the studio, and to just really bring in where I will concentrate on the work. That is what is really important. That, there is no distractions, nothing to interfere with looking for one song at a time. It’s important to keep focus on it. Things like that where people say, “but you have written so many songs, ” It doesn’t mean that I will write more songs, you have to really, sometimes for me, it’s like a month and I say it to Nicky, “Oh my God, do I write another song?”, and “Yes, it’s gonna take longer but you will write another song.” So confident wise, you do get writer’s block. You know, that would happen. So it’s again to me, it’s very exciting moment, when I write the songs. So I get very excited. I think, yes, song, I wrote it. So it always feels new to me. It always feels like it is a new melody, but it holds a certain amount of fascination to myself as well. I might keep thinking what I am gonna do, and next day, I’ve written. It’s very difficult to analyze writing other songs. Quite difficult.

Q: You know the excitement, but you know also the writer’s block.

ENYA: Yes, maybe the last song I wrote that I ever write… But I get encouragement. I said from Nicky and from Roma. It takes as long as you want. It’s always like write whatever I want. It has to be natural progression as well for me that whatever that the strongest emotional feeling that I want to get across to the listeners, is what I am trying to capture in the song. So you might play a song you think but it’s not saying anything, you know, it doesn’t move me in any way, so in that regard, I put a lot of importance on the work that it’s not enough to just write melody, it has to have a depth to it. Something that is important to me that I can relate to, when I sing it, that I feel it very emotionally is very important to me.

My! My! Time Flies!

Enya is currently promoting the second single of the album My! My! Time Flies!. The track was released only digitally with no additional b-sides on February 2nd. Enya performed the song on several TV shows:

  • Late Late Show (Dublin, February 6)
  • Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel (Salzburg, January 31)
  • The Alan Titchmarsch Show (London, February 3)

At the moment, I am in the process of completely revamping the gallery and adding more pictures, so please be patient. I also wrote a special And Winter Came page and completed the lyrics and tracks.

And they flew…

Eithne talked about how And Winter Came explores themes of the season and the passing of time. You can listen to the interview as well as another one from Paint the Sky with Stars promotion at the NPR website. I am just drooling over both of them, Eithne is just perfect, got to love her :) Btw, is it just me or do you also find that her accent has changed over the years?

At the moment, I’m working on some updates to the website (adding AWC info and photos as the traffic got back to normal) and wanted to ask you: is there anything particular you’d like to see?

“Come to the edge, he said. They said: We are afraid. Come to the edge, he said. They came. He pushed them. And they flew.” -Guillaume Apollinaire

Happy New Year! Enya on Kouhaku

A very Happy New year to all of you!

Enya performed Orinoco Flow and Dreams Are More Precious for the Japanese TV show Kouhaku. The performance was broadcast via satellite from Castle Leslie in Monaghan, Ireland. You can also watch a Morning News interview and check 12 photos taken after recording of Live with Regis and Kelly in New York. I also created two new wallpapers with AWC promo pictures, enjoy!

Green is in the Mistletoe

Hi everyone, I hope you are enjoying the holiday season with your family and friends. I had quite an Enya Christmas as I got an autographed AWC album (she signed 200 copies for a Taiwanese charity project) and a signed TAWR single with a AWC promo book (Loxian Games prizes). Made me veeery happy :) During December, Enya promoted AWC in Japan and USA, here are links to the interviews and performances.

Great Britain:

  • ITV This Morning – Oiche Chiuin with a children’s choir

Japan:

  • NTV performance – Trains and Winter Rains
  • NTV Christmas Show – Orinoco Flow and Trains and Winter Rains
  • TV interview

USA:

  • CNN interview

  • ABC Good Morning America
  • ABC Live with Regis and Kelly – White is the Winter Night
  • NBC Today Show

Maybe you remember that the Berlin Staatsballet performed to the music from And Winter Came at the German launch party. Now, you can watch the performance online.

Talking about the launch parties, Czech music magazine Reflex published an article about the London launch. I didn’t translate but you might like to see the photos.

Enya’s favourite music

Enya talked to Elaine Paige and Neil Fox about her favourite music, I must say that I really enjoyed listening to these interviews. Indulgence and My Essential Musicals. I checked some of the songs online, it was really an interesting mix.

Do you know you look like Enya?

I’m sure you’ll all love this laid back interview with Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2. Listen to it online (fast-forward to 1:38). And don’t forget to watch Enya’s performance of Trains and Winter Rains on ‘Children in Need’ fundraiser in Belfast.

There’s more goodness to come, according to Enya’s official site, she’s just about to begin her promotional tour of Japan and also appear on the following shows:

  • Elaine Paige interview – Sunday 23rd Nov (between 1 – 2:30pm)

will be available online for one week

  • Magic FM ‘Indulgence’ interview – Sunday 23rd Nov (7 – 8pm)

will be available online for one week

  • Ken Bruce – ‘tracks of my years’ – interview across every day – week commencing 8th December (between 9:30am – 12pm)

will be available online for one week

Concerning the lack of new photos and screenshots: I am terribly lazy AND the site’s traffic is high because of the new album. Therefore, if I uploaded any more pictures the bandwidth limit would get exceeded and OOTB would be offline once again. But don’t worry, sweethearts! There’s still Simone’s extensive picture archive. She’s doing a wonderful job, don’t you think?

We all know that the new album is great but if you wanna read some reviews anyway, here you go: The Badger Herald & BlogCritics Magazine. Herald Sun published an article/interview Queen of the Castle. There’re some cute parts, definitely recommended reading :)

And Interviews Came

There’s been a lot going on lately, so let’s take it slowly and start with the interviews:

  • Enya being interviewed and performing Trains and Winter Rains on British TV show GMTV. I love the part about Every Breath You Take, Mario Winans (a getleman with a greatvoice) and that I finally found out how to pronounce Boadicea.
  • Radio interview from Front Row on BBC4 (fast-forward to about 6:30). It was fun to hear that the lyrics of My! My! Time Flies! were inspired by an actual conversation Enya, Nicky and Roma had :)
  • Short video in French from RTL.be. Absolutely no new information there but the fact that I could understand everything they said, made me very happy *lol*
  • Interview from Australian TV show Sunrise. If you don’t already know: Enya isn’t hiding, she’s working!
  • Videos from the Madrid press conference: #1 #2 #3 #4
  • Audio from the Madrid press conference: #1
