Leo and Baba Brennan presented with a Benemerenti Medal

Enya’s parents, Leo and Baba Brennan, were presented with a Benemerenti Medal by Bishop Philip Boyce after Sunday mass in Derrybeg. The medal, awarded by the pope, recognises service to the church and Leo and Baba were recognised for their years as organists in Meenaweal Church and Derrybeg church respectively. Members of the Brennan family, including Enya, were there for the special occasion (photo from Donegal News). Thanks to Draíocht for the photo and info and congratulations to Leo and Baba!

Aunt Enya plays fairy godmother for niece’s christening

Enya was godmother at the christening of her baby niece Matilda in St Mary’s Church in Derrybeg. Matilda is the daughter of Enya’s youngest sister Bridin Brennan and her husband Cameron Campbell.

A great photo of Enya at the event (scanned from Donegal Democrat by Draiocht an Dulra).

Manic Monday

Because you can never have enough of Enya pictures

  • 10 Grammy photos – thanks to Elizabeth for sending them
  • random images from my harddrive, Elizabeth and all sorts of other places
  • magazine scans I never uploaded because there was text over Enya but I finally made myself to remove it in Photoshop *hurray*

Because you can never have enough Enya wallpapers

“Caribbean Blue” is one of my favourite songs and those dangly seahorse earrings are classics – it definitely deserved a wallpaper ;) “Deora Ar Mo Chroi” is loosely based on Brody Neuenschwander’s artwork for “A Box of Dreams” and “Paint the Sky with Stars” – I think they are the best Enya booklets ever. “Tempus Vernum” is very simple, I just played with the colour scheme.

Something to read

I transcribed Enya makes her mark (1988 interview that goes with the three enya.org pictures posted above), girls might enjoy it a bit more as it talks a lot about clothes. I know I did :) Enya’s key notes to top charts again is quite fun to read, although I don’t understand why rap bands want to sample “Boadicea”. Come on, what’s so special about the song? Ciaran Breenan gave an interview where he mentions wee Eithne briefly, you can read it on Moya Brennan’s forum.

Enya at the Earagail Arts Festival

Visitors to the Earagail Arts Festival were given a truly unique opportunity on Wednesday (July 13, 2005) – Enya took part in Oíche le Cór Mhuire (A Night with St Mary’s Choir). The concert took place at St Mary’s Church, Derrybeg, Gaoth Dobhair and as reported on the festival’s official website, it was a huge success. Enya and her sisters performed three hymns together and later joined the choir.

Brennan Family Tribute

Donegal county council is to host a civic reception for Leo and Baba Brennan and the Brennan family, in recognition of their musical achievements. The reception will take place in July (13th – 17th), co-inciding with a special 4 day programme of events during the Earagail Arts Festival in honour of the west Donegal family. The highlight will be a concert in Letterkenny featuring all members of the Brennan family, including performances by the five Brennan sisters (Máire, Enya, Deirdre, Brídín and Olive), Moya Brennan and her band, and Clannad who will reform for the night. The next generation of the Brennan musicians will take to the stage as will Leo himself and Baba who will lead Cór Ghaoth Dobhair.
