Collecting Enya: The Frog Prince

The Frog Prince/French Lesson movie poster‘The Frog Prince’ album contains music that Enya composed for the 1984 romantic comedy of the same name. The soundtrack released the following year includes 9 instrumentals composed by Enya, 2 songs composed and performed by her and a couple of jazz standards performed by Jazz Club. Contrary to popular belief, the cd is very easy to buy (used copies start at $2) and not rare at all. The question is more whether you should give it a try and include it in your Enya collection or not.

Collecting Enya: The Celts – Rich Traditions and Ancient Myths

The Celts: Rich Traditions and Ancient Myths

I guess that you have already heard about the 1987 documentary series that brought Enya’s first solo album. The story goes that the BBC producer Tony McAuley told Roma that they were looking for several “Celtic” composers to write music for their series in the working. Enya and Nicky quickly put together a demo for ‘March of the Celts’ and sent it out. The BBC people loved it so much they hired Enya on the spot to provide music for the entire series and the rest is history.

King Julien and Sonya the Bear love theme

Dreamworks Animations uploaded the ‘Madagascar 3′ segment featuring Enya’s ‘Watermark’ to their Youtube channel. It’s actually pretty funny.

Enya in Madagascar 3

A short excerpt from Enya’s ‘Watermark‘ can be heard in the new ‘Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted’ movie. The piano instrumental is played when Julien meets Sonya for the first time on the train. Love at first sight!

Listen to ‘Watermark’ on Enya’s MySpace.

Songs for Japan

Enya’s song ‘If I could be where you are’ is included on the charity compilation ‘Songs for Japan’ benefitting Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami relief. It is featured as the tenth track of the second cd, between Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’ and Elton John’s ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.’

Songs for Japan is a charity compilation album created to benefit relief efforts for the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. A collaborative project between the music industry’s “big four” record labels (EMI, Sony, Universal, and Warner), the album was released through the iTunes Store on March 25, 2011 through Universal. Royalties for the songs featured on the album were waived so that all proceeds may be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society. A physical album was released on April 4, 2011 through Sony.

Enya in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (false rumour)

The rumour about Enya participating in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2′ is false. Enya is not working on the movie soundrack and the title ‘Through the Darkness’ as well as the coverart was made up.

Rihanna sampling Enya on Fading Away

Once again, someone decided it would be a good idea to sample one of Enya’s songs. This time it was Rihanna who used One by One on her track Fading Away. The song itself is not bad but the sped-up One by One sounds out of place. I can’t tell you whether the sample is official or not but the reviewers refer to it quite often, so it obviously isn’t a secret. And at least it is not Boadicea.

Watermark by Sarah Brightman

As fans of Sarah Brightman probably already know, her vocalised
version of Watermark was released on her limited cd
The Harem Tour that can be bought only at the HAREM
concerts. I bought a copy at her concert in Prague, so here is
Sarah’s comment to the song from the cd booklet.

"WATERMARK is my vocalise version of a beautiful
instrumental by Enya. It was recorded for the TIMELESS Album* but
we never finished it after Enya and her record company (which was
also mine at the time) threatened me to put an injuction on my
album."
