Two things happened a while ago that persuaded me that this post was meant to be written. First, Dani asked me to do it and then Enya fell on me while I was reading a book. Now, it wasn’t Enya Enya, it was just a badly attached poster of Enya but since I will be writing about posters, it surely was a sign, wasn’t it?

‘The Frog Prince’ album contains music that Enya composed for the 1984 romantic comedy of the same name. The soundtrack released the following year includes 9 instrumentals composed by Enya, 2 songs composed and performed by her and a couple of jazz standards performed by Jazz Club. Contrary to popular belief, the cd is very easy to buy (used copies start at $2) and not rare at all. The question is more whether you should give it a try and include it in your Enya collection or not.

I guess that you have already heard about the 1987 documentary series that brought Enya’s first solo album. The story goes that the BBC producer Tony McAuley told Roma that they were looking for several “Celtic” composers to write music for their series in the working. Enya and Nicky quickly put together a demo for ‘March of the Celts’ and sent it out. The BBC people loved it so much they hired Enya on the spot to provide music for the entire series and the rest is history.

So you’d like to get Enya’s music videos as well? Obtaining all the videos of your favourite Irish lass is unfortunately not as easy as it might seem. For some mysterious reason (I’d say copyright issues but who knows), there is no single release that would regroup all of them. Uaaah!
The cheapest and easiest way to start your collection is to download the videos from iTunes or other online store. It is fast and you have no dvds to dust and scratch. But if you are like me, you want to hold those shiny little discs in your hands. And I will help you.

Despite being quite short, ‘A Day without Rain’ brought some very lovely non-album tracks. I consider ‘Isobella’ to be one of the best b-sides that Enya has ever released. Such a shame it was not included on the standard edition of the album. On the other hand, it gives you something to hunt for!
