Enya gave this cute radio interview during her recent trip to the States. I love how the interviewer suggests using digital sampling instead of recording vocal layers hundreds of times (Enya says ‘no’), casually throws shade on ‘The Hobbit’, and then after asking about Enya’s castle exclaims ‘That’s where Enya should live!’ He got it.

That was a great interview, Thanks for sharing it, Lucia

Just a doubt here: your site says her full name is Eithne PATRICIA Ni Bhraonain. But this is the second time she says her name and doesn’t say “Patricia”. Where can we confirm “Patricia” is really her name?

Interesting….this interview series is supported by The Met. That is The Metropolitan Opera, which is the place she/they have described as a possible locale for a concert that is simulcast in theaters.

OK, I should have waited to comment until AFTER I listened! LOL that was funny, especially after Nicky & Roma joined in! Thanks for sharing that interview!
9 April 2016 at 2:45 PM
Really nice interview. A couple of tiny details I had not heard before were explained such as how Roma actually became involved as Lyricist at the very beginning, (namely through asking), and also the origins of the analogue Brain in a digital domain approach, (namely Nicky’s Live Tour experiences).
Also, I must say I really liked the way brief extracts from the songs were used, in one case Enya commenting during the playback. Really interactive rather than the “block” of one or more complete songs being played and somewhat interrupting the flow of the interview, (no pun intended).

Yes, this interview is really an unexpected gem. I didn’t hear all of it when I wrote the blurb, so I didn’t know Roma and Nicky would join in. What a lovely surprise! I also liked how thoughtufully the extracts were used, I felt they illustrated Enya’s music very well.
@Patricia It’s her second name but not something she uses in day-to-day life. You can find it mentioned in official documents (song credits, for example).
@Candace I didn’t know that. what a coincidence!

Yes, I have watched or listened to a couple of interviews where the music is very thoughtfully chosen. It makes such a big difference – well, to we keen admirers of Enya’s music anyway.
@ Patricia I learned of Enya’s second name quite accidentally around ten years ago when looking at a CD Single Inlay Card, (remember them?) at the British Library Music Archives in Euston, London. :-)

Thanks a lot, Lucia. I’m too pleased to know Enya and me share the same name! :-) Your site is the best! I’ve been a huge Enya fan sice 1989 here in Brazil and I always come to visit your site! Congrats for the work and effort! :-)
And Brian thanks also to let me know about her second name too! :-)
This interview is very good…unfortunately we can’t keep it as the other archives we can download from Youtube ( just to keep register) but it’s great undoubtely!
Peace and hapiness to you all!!!

The interview is downloadable from the radio site. I’ll try to add the link when I am on my computer instead of my phone.
Patricia is a beautiful name, my cousin shares it too.

Patricia,
I was able to “extract” the interview from Studio 360 website in mp3 format file, which then can be archived and played back locally, and I can share it with you ;)

I just wanted to say Dark Sky Island is an amazing album! It’s fantastic second to none! All the songs are amazing, the way Enya sings is so emotional…when we compare her singing in songs like “The Frog Prince” and “Dreams” ( 1985) with “Astra et Luna” and “Solace” (now) the difference is brutal!
I also see a great variation with arrangements and creative way to play…In fact I love the way Enya play a song and in a certain moment she “pushes” the songs and a new sound comes as she did with “Journey of the angels”, ” Only time” or when she stops a part of the song to continue… like “Book of days”….I have no words for “The Loxian Gates!”…. because of the ‘beat’ together with synths…oh My God and what about the performance of “The forge of the angels?”
All so emotional and perfect and amazing…Her talent never went away and never will be. And this album proves that! So, The Memory of Trees I used to love in first place…now lost the posiion to DSI … :-)
Oh my God, Lucia, I’m writing too much !!!!
Peace and Light!

@ Patricia So great to read that you are a fan of Enya since 1989. :-D
I remember as vividly as if it was yesterday going to a Record Store in my local City and buying the ‘Watermark’ LP on vinyl, (which I still have), only a couple of weeks after the album was released. My first introduction to Enya was the iconic ‘Orinoco Flow’ and I have been hooked since then.
In the following years, I got ‘Shepherd Moons’ and ‘The Memory of Trees’ on cassette, and was given a Birthday present of ‘Watermark’ on cassette whilst at college, which I had only made a home recording of from the LP onto tape before that for my own personal use. A little time after that, I finally made the transition to CD having purchased my first portable Twin Cassette/CD Player, and bought several of the Enya albums I already had on CD. ;-)
About twenty years have passed since then, and in the meantime I have been lucky enough to collect all of Enya’s albums including rarer material such as ‘The Frog Prince’ on CD. I am pleased that I also have every song she recorded, (except ‘The Lonely Ghost’), through various collections, singles, and downloads, but only some on CD singles. I do have all her videos.
It’s really lovely to read your enthusiasm for and admiration of Enya’s music Patricia, and no you are not writing too much, in my opinion. :-)

Briaaaannnnn!!!!!
I guess you are like me! :-) The song which attracted me to Enya was also Orinoco Flow!!! Thanks Orinoco Flow, because my heart and soul were open to a fanstastic kind od music very ‘unspokable’. I was just 13 when I lestened to ” Let me sail/Let me sail/Let me Orinoco flow”….so the catchy song was always on my mind and I said : “Mom, I want this music.” I remember my City had a Radio Station for Classical Music and Orinoco used to play a lot. One day I said : “My God, I NEED to know who’s singing”. So the guy on the phone said “It’s Enya. An irish singer. This song belongs to Watermark album”. So I said “Mom, please buy this album to me!”. My mother used to sing in a choir so she loved Enya also and she immediately started to listen to the album with me.
Brian you can imagine a word called “happiness”…it was me! Cursum Perficio, African drummers, then Exile, River, Longships!!!! Simply ‘unspokable’ and this is a word I mean for the Enya’s music. You don1t speak about it. You feel it.After Watermark , I followed her forever with Shepherd moons, TMOT ( untill DSI this one was my favourite album) and ADWR, Amarantine,AWC, I bought all the singles, the Book from Sergio Casado which is in spanish but as brazilian I can read and understand it all ( very good)….the K7s,I also kept my Lps since 1989 . My Watermark is in a Perfect condition… and Steve ( Bigwiglaf form Unity) gave me a signed copy of And Winter Came :-) I also have all her videos and I use to download all the videos from Youtube ( for my personal use only) and watch because I like to understand her universe. Over here in Brazil I also found some extremely rare promos :D
But but but…nothing is like DSI!!!! I listen to it many times a day! If I say it’s “magic” I still need a word ; if I say it’s “beautiful”, too vague. If I say it’s ” wonderful” I think it’s more than that! So “unspokable” is the word :-) I guess you and all here understand me !
So I have a fraternal love for her. She’s the one, and she’s the best.Sorry Adele, but those is a student, and Enya the teacher!
Brian, keep in contact! :-) I don’t know if I can give you my e-mail here but if Lucia gives me ok let’s talk about her and her music!!
:D

@Patricia I added the download link to the article. Don’t worry, you certainly don’t write too much, I am always glad to read other fans’ opinions. It’s wonderful that you’ve been a fan for all those years since discovering Watermark.
Feel free to exchange emails/Facebook/whatever, I will certainly not prevent fans from meeting each other ;)

I think this was one of the best interviews Enya has given. She gave me a more personal insight as to who she is and her work ethic. It was great to hear from the Ryan’s, too.

Thanks a lot Lucia!!! I’m very happy! :D

@ Patricia Another great post from you. :-) Your enthusiasm jumps off the screen with every sentence so well written by you. What more can I say?
Oh yes, ‘Watermark’ is clearly very special to both of us, (as I’m sure it is to many, many fans). My introduction to the album and music of Enya through ‘Orinoco Flow’ is almost identical to yours. I remember seeing Enya on the television here in Ireland a few times performing ‘Orinoco Flow’ from the album. I remember thinking as a 19 year old, “I know and love this song, but who is that beautiful lady on the piano who wrote it?” The rest as they say is history! ;-)
Regarding we keeping in touch, yes of course, I would be very happy to do so. :-) I will be dropping by to Enya sk here from time to time, but you may also be able to send me a friend request through Facebook, (if you are on that), by clicking on my name before a recent comment I made on the Radio Berlin interview on the Enya sk Facebook page.
Thanks again for your wonderful thoughts, Patricia. :-)

Brian, I’m sorry but I don’t have Facebook. My e-mail adress is patricia_cezar@hotmail.com.br and you can write to me if you want to. So we don’t need to use Lucia’s space to comment ! :D
Thanks for your kind words!

No problem Patricia! ;-)
Thank you for your e-mail address. I will e-mail you so that you have my address and we can continue conversations about all things Enya. :D
Right now I’m singing along to the chorus of ‘Orinoco Flow’ from ‘Watermark’. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have collected the album in three different formats over the years starting with the vinyl LP in October 1988.
In the link below is an image for you of three cherished albums from my collection. I hope you continue to be well and happy, Patricia. :-)
